Hello, everyone!
Welcome to The Black Experience, a month long blog series through February, in honour of Black History Month, which features Black bloggers, booktubers and authors. This project aims at highlighting Black stories and experiences both in real life and in publishing, as well as showing our individual and collective struggles.
Today’s post is a fun post by Tanya Pickles. Actually this idea was me pushing the nerd-o-meter, but luckily another person seemed also seemed interested in it. Tanya will be giving us nine anime recommendations with Black characters, with some extras.
Its as if I was waiting for someone to ask me this question.
Afro Samurai
Fantastic series from the beginning to end. The voice of Afro is Samuel L. Jackson (insert M*F* joke) and it is done extremely well. The best part about this anime is Afro isn’t the villain *hooray*
Cowboy Bebop
One of my favorite favorite series in the whole anime world.
Kofi, the bounty hunter
Udai Taxim
Side Note: The episode he is in is called Black Dog Serenade and it is my favorite of the show.
Punch, Big Shot host
- There are more Black characters within this series but these three came straight to mind.
The Promised Neverland
Sister Krone
Black Lagoon
Dutch
Soul Eater
Kilik Lunge
Hunter x Hunter
Canary
Carole and Tuesday
Carole
Durarara
Simon
Michiko to Hatchin
Atsuko Jackson
★Side Note:
Two of my favorite anime/cartoons have lead characters voiced by Black actors although the character is white or Asian.
Jet from Cowboy Bebop
Beau Billingslea (voice actor)
Jack from Samurai Jack
Phil LaMarr (voice actor)
