So it’s February, which means Black History Month! *squeals and throws glitter around, sobbing with joy*
Black History Month is one of my favourite months of the year, because it means for once, for a month, I can be unapologetically black and do black-centric things, doesn’t that sound lovely *sighs*.
So for this year’s Black History Month, I’ll be compiling books by black authors with black characters to read (yay!).
My list is really limited because, I’m a broke teenager with zero funds, but really excited for this, so I’m doing it anyway.
My Black History Month Reading List:
★ The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while, but I just didn’t have the time to. Now that’s its Black History Month, I have a reason to.
★ Children Of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi.
I started reading CBB, August last year, but unfortunately I fell into a reading slump, because my mental health kinda crashed back then. Now, I’m looking forward to reading it, because its the first book I’m seeing my culture so beautifully displayed in (I’m Yoruba). It is definitely one book I’m excited to read.
★ Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo.
I recently just got this book based on recommendation from a friend. I really don’t know what its about *awkward laugh*, I’m curious about it.
★ Jury by David Dada.
Ok, so I don’t a lot about this book either *sheepish smile*. But I beta read a few chapters of the second book for the author, and I liked it. I mentioned it to the author and said I wished I had read the first book and ta-da, he sent me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked the characters from the second book, and the parts of the book I’ve read so far. I’m also looking forward to read this one.
Also let’s not forget it’ll be Valentine’s, the fourteenth of this month! A day for the love birds, or for me, for books, close friends and family.
For Valentine’s, I’m going to be having a date with a lucky book, lol. I’ll be reading a love themed book, with a little twist of mythology, Arrowheart by Rebecca Sky.
February looks like a good month for reading, I really hope it is.
So tell me, what do you think of my list? And what’s on yours?
